What a Nails?

Ok, so I KNOW these are gross, and some people are going to cringe and whatnot, but I KNEW I had to do them. :-D  I thought of the idea last night just as I was falling asleep, so that must mean it's a good one, right?!  lol  That's what I'm telling' myself.

What better use of those nail pearl things, but to make PIMPLES?!  (Granted, this is only a better use if you want zits on your nails, which obviously I do.)
I'm not totally sure where this design came from in my brain, but here it is. I originally set out to do a very different design, but I'll definitely need more practice before I can pull that one off, it's a tad too intricate.

Which Way?

I love tessellations. (an area covered by repeated use of a single shape, without gaps or overlapping) They're awesome. They're a pain in the ass to paint on a nail though. :-D These took a couple of redos. I think they turned out pretty awesome though, if I do say so myself. (at least I am happy with how they turned out!) I used one of the China Glaze Tronica collection holos, but it wasn't nearly as holo as I had hoped.. :-/  I bought them all when they came out, but I'm just trying 'em out now, I'm a little behind.

So which arrows do you see first? The blue ones? The black ones? For me, it depends on which nail I look at.

Tonight I made the best dinner, Chicken Tacos!  I made the tortillas from scratch, made my own sour cream (it's impossible to find in India), steamed rice with fresh corn, added seasoned chicken and cheddar.   SOOOO good.

A few more pictures- one of my colleagues

I have to admit, I like this hand better- I realized I liked the splatter effect over the skin AFTER I started cleaning up my left hand, so I took a pic of my right hand too. I feel like it better conveys the spirit of the celebration. :)

Rusty Nail

Sorry, this isn't the Rusty Nail of the Drambuie and Scotch variety, or the kind that gives you tetanus, it's definitely the nail polish variety. :) I've always loved the look of rusty metal (unless it's on my car or a rollercoaster :)) and I've had this idea in my nail art idea notebook for a while now. I've always wanted to paint my walls with that paint that rusts, it looks rad. You paint the wall with this black primer, which had iron particles in it, then apply this solvent, and the whole wall transforms into every color of rust imaginable, it's pretty damn cool looking. I wonder how long it takes the solvent to do its job?

A few more pictures- one of my colleagues and I, and one more after I got some more color - green, to be exact. :-P

Holi WOW!

Handfuls of colored powder smeared across your cheeks, thrown in your hair, rubbed on your forehead, color EVERYWHERE. Fun or nightmare?  Definitely FUN. It might have been one of the most fun experiences here in India so far! If you're all like 'What the F is she talking about?', I'll tell you. Today (if you're in the States, or yesterday, if you're on my side of the world), is/was HOLI!  Holi is the Indian festival of color, celebrating the coming of Spring! :) Hindus believe that it is saying farewell to winter, and hello to the abundance of Spring colors. I believe that it was a BLAST. It was kind of like a snowball fight with colored powder, and when you 'whitewash' someone, they're left with a face like this:
I decided to do a nail design based on my Holi experience, a colorful array of splatters covering my nails simulating the splatter of powder everywhere on skin, clothes, hair, and the floor. :-P

You Don't Know Jack!

Oh, what I wouldn't do for a Sourdough Jack, or one of those grilled deli sandwiches right now, with some awesome JITB fries, and ranch dressing. Maybe a GINORMOUS Dr. Pepper or Oreo milkshake to wash it down? Yes, please. Plus, how can you not love the JITB mascot, Jack?! You know those portraits of Jack in the restaurants that have the plaque that says 'Our Founder'? Well, you can order them from the company, and yes, I bought one for Chris for his birthday a few years back. :-D It's pretty much the coolest thing ever. Chris is also drooling over the Jack halloween costume, he really wants a big Jack head, I'm pretty sure he'd wear it everywhere if he could.
I've had Jack on my list of nail art ideas for what seems like ever. I actually had to go back through my nail designs to make sure I hadn't done them yet, because I couldn't imagine that I hadn't. Well, I didn't...until now. I originally planned to make this manicure a progression of the different versions of Jack over the years, but I decided to stick with the current Jack that we all know and love.

Rise and Shine!

This morning I was up bright and early, 5 a.m. to be exact! :-D Mind you, I'm not up that early usually, but this morning I got a call from Pakistan!! A while back, VJ Sehrish, a lovely woman who hosts a show on Pakistani TV network ARY Musik, called 'Girls Rupublic', contacted me about being a guest (via phone) on her show. Of COURSE I said yes, I mean, how cool is that?! It still amazes me that people from so far away follow my blog...and like it! :-P So anyway, in honor of my phone chat with VJ Sehrish on her show, I did Girls Republic nails! On the Thumb is the Girls Republic logo, on the index and pinky finger I did super glittery pink nails, on the middle finger nail, is (obviously) the American flag (to represent me), and the flag of Pakistan on the ring finger (to represent Sehrish!) :).
I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud as a base for the thumb and middle fingers, butter LONDON Rosie Lee as a base for the index and pinky fingers, and CND Green Scene for the ring finger. For the crescent and star on the ring finger, I used Sally Hansen Professional Lavender Cloud, for the American flag, I used Nubar Sexy Red for the stripes, ALDO Sea You in Ibiza for the blue. For the Girls Republic logo, I used American Apparel Berry for the darker berry color, and Sally Hansen Vavoom Violet Creme for the hot pink. For the darker pink glitter on the tips of the index and pinky, I used Nubar Petunia Sparkle. Topped everything off with 2 coats of Seche Vite top coat.

Thank you VJ Sehrish!!

Another Departure

Another Departure

only four months in the role, Maxime Simoens is said to be about to depart the helm of Leonard – the label which snapped up the young French talent last October. Rumours suggest that Simoens has spoken with Christian Dior about the still-vacant creative directorship – something that the designer has strenously denied to WWD – but no confirmation of his depature has yet been released by either party.

Picking Up the Dude

Dear E. Jean:  My boyfriend of three months just moved to a new place. When I visited, I commented on all the boxes everywhere, and he laughed and pointed out a vibrator on his coffee table. I was surprised and asked if he was making a joke. He wasn’t. I asked where it came from, and he said it was his, Then he quickly added that it had been “cleaned and sterilized and is still fully operational.”
I was flabbergasted. I tried to discuss the issue, but he just kept laughing it off. The rest of the evening, I struggled to push my feelings aside, but I completely broke down when I got home. I called the next morning to explain in a very calm way that I didn’t care what he did with the vibrator, but I never wanted to see it again because it represented his intimate times with the woman he’d been with for five years. Then I asked how he felt.
He said he couldn’t talk because he was just going into a meeting but promised he was going to think about it. I sent him a funny message the next day and never heard back. I sent another two days later. Nothing. He’s MIA! I want to work this out. What’s going on here?He Won’t Talk About the Issue

Miss Issue, My Charming Dodo:

At a time when women are leaving vibrators on the coffee tables, refrigerator shelves, and fireplace mantles of every man in America, it is impolite for a lady to be “flabbergasted” when encountering a gizmo in a gentleman’s living quarters. The correct response is to be totally grossed out. Your instinct to “discuss the issue” was honorable. (I’d have simply glanced at the thing and said: “I wondered where my grandmother left this.”) However, the guy was so flustered, all he could do was laugh. And because he laughed about something so important, you were hurt.
